Capital Radio 604 began broadcasting on 26 December 1979 from transmitters in the Transkei, reaching South African listeners on 603 kHz medium wave. At a time when the SABC held a monopoly, it broke new ground with uncensored news through Independent Radio News and music the state broadcaster would not play. The original station closed in 1996, and this stream revives its sound with classic hits and archive-style countdown shows.
