Brian FM in Whanganui, heard on 91.2 FM, does radio deliberately differently. Part of the independent Brian FM network, it runs under the slogan “Playing What We Feel Like”, with an automated mix of adult contemporary and classic rock and almost no traditional DJ chatter. Short, dry-witted liners appear between songs instead of talk breaks. For Whanganui listeners the appeal is simple: familiar hits, few interruptions, local information when it matters, and a station that refuses to sound like every other station in town.
