BBC Radio One is the BBC's flagship youth station under its familiar shorter name — Radio 1. It launched on 30 September 1967, with Tony Blackburn playing the first record, and broadcasts nationally on FM frequencies between 97.1 and 99.7 MHz and via BBC Sounds. The Radio 1 Breakfast Show, the Official Chart on Fridays and specialist evening shows anchor a format built around new music, from pop and dance to grime and indie.
