Broadcasting on longwave 252 kHz from Clarkstown, County Meath, Atlantic 252 launched on 1 September 1989 as a joint venture between RTÉ and RTL, trading as Radio Tara. Its powerful signal reached most of Ireland and the United Kingdom with a tight American-style Top 40 pop format, at a time when Britain had no national commercial pop station. The original service closed in January 2002, and this stream revives its name and pop heritage.
