Adroit Jazz Underground is the jazz channel of the WALM web-radio family, and 'underground' is the operative word: bebop, hard bop, post-bop, avant-garde and free jazz sit alongside big-band and combo recordings. Directory listings trace it to Wisconsin and a serious, album-oriented playlist — Donald Byrd, Joey DeFrancesco, and modern big bands such as Marshall Gilkes with the WDR Big Band. It streams at audiophile-friendly bitrates for listeners who find mainstream jazz radio too safe.
