From studios in New Plymouth, Access Radio Taranaki has given the region's communities their own broadcast voice since midday on 12 July 2010, when it became the newest of New Zealand's twelve access stations — the first NZ On Air-funded access launch in over a decade. Broadcasting on 104.4 FM, it offers airtime, training and facilities to local groups, with over a hundred community organisations involved from the start. Between community programmes, world music fills the gaps, and the station carries no paid advertising, relying on grants, trusts and donations instead.
