531pi, now part of Pacific Media Network as PMN 531, has served Pacific communities since 1993, when it was set up in Ōtāhuhu by the Auckland Pacific Island Community Radio Trust. Broadcasting on 531 AM across Auckland and into Northland and Waikato, it mixes news, talkback and Pacific music for first and second generation migrants. By day programmes are mainly in English; after 6pm, community language programmes serve a different Pacific island each night, making it a cornerstone of Pasifika life in Aotearoa.
