A pop-up overflow service from BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra, this third extra stream appears in the UK during major sporting events when several live commentaries are needed at once. The parent station launched in February 2002 as a digital companion to BBC Radio 5 Live, carrying extra football, cricket, tennis and rugby coverage that cannot fit on the main network. Extra 3 is carried online and via BBC Sounds within the UK only.
