Launched on 14 February 2021 by veteran radio executives Phil Riley and David Lloyd, Boom Radio was created specifically for baby boomers — listeners born between 1946 and 1964 who felt underserved by mainstream stations. Graham Dene was the first voice heard at launch. Broadcasting nationally on DAB and online, Boom mixes music largely from the 1960s and 1970s with familiar presenter personalities, many of them well-known names from earlier decades of British radio.
