KCEA 89.1 is a genuine rarity: a big band station run by a school district. Licensed to Atherton, California, it is owned by the Sequoia Union High School District and began in 1979 at Menlo-Atherton High School as KMAH. Renamed KCEA in 1983, it adopted the big band, swing and adult standards format it still plays around the clock for the San Francisco Peninsula, alongside live coverage of district high school sports.
